Jamie Chavez Art
by Jamie Chavez
"Art is a powerful way to communicate stories, emotions, and ideas that words cannot always express. Jamie believes in creating work that honors New Mexico’s culture, strengthens the connection between people and place, and makes art accessible through public spaces, community involvement, and meaningful personal pieces."

About the Maker
Jamie Chavez is a multidisciplinary artist and muralist based in Las Vegas, New Mexico. His passion for art began in elementary school, and after selling his first painting in the third grade, he knew creativity would remain an important part of his life. Jamie’s work combines new-age graffiti with traditional and contemporary influences. Working across a wide range of mediums, including spray paint, acrylic, oil, watercolor, pen and ink, pencil, charcoal, wood burning, and tattoo art, he approaches each piece according to the story, emotion, and setting behind it. Throughout his career, Jamie has completed approximately 60 murals and created hundreds of original works. His artwork can be found in seven states and throughout New Mexico on historic buildings, restaurants, commercial properties, public spaces, college facilities, and community landmarks. Notable projects include murals along the River Walk in Las Vegas, on Main Street in Mora, and at Fusion Tacos in Albuquerque. Jamie was also selected to create the large-scale Highlands University logo at the John A. Wilson Complex on the New Mexico Highlands University campus. Visible from the football field and several blocks away, it has become one of his most recognizable works in the community. Jamie also creates commissioned artwork for private collectors and residential spaces, including custom paintings, logos, portraits, and meaningful memorial pieces. His hand-burned wooden urn boxes are individually created to honor the life and memory of a loved one. Community is central to Jamie’s artistic practice. He regularly donates artwork to fundraisers, benefit events, and families in need, organizes art giveaways, and volunteers his time teaching painting classes. Through these efforts, he helps make art more accessible while encouraging others to explore their own creativity. Much of Jamie’s inspiration comes from his three daughters. As a single father and native New Mexican, he is passionate about preserving the artistic spirit and cultural heritage of the region while creating work that connects people to place, culture, and emotion.
